I’m Beth, a twenty-something Mother of one, and the designer/ maker and everything else behind Bark Opal.

My passion for jewellery started back in 2011, at the age of 16, I had just finished school and was looking for a creative subject to study at college. I found a jewellery class at my local adult education centre and was hooked! I successfully applied to the British Academy of Jewellery, (formerly Holts Academy), based in London’s jewellery quarter in Hatton Garden. There I studied traditional jewellery making techniques and over the year gained a Level 2 and Level 3 Diploma in Jewellery Manufacture.

I went on to complete a degree in Silversmithing, Goldsmithing and Jewellery ay Rochester University for the Creative Arts, where I learned more contemporary jewellery making techniques and found a love of colour in the form of enamel. This culminated in a collection of enamel brooches, necklaces and rings inspired by sea creatures and corals that was exhibited at the New Designers Exhibition in Islington.

I managed to get a job in London in the industry after my graduation working for a designed who specialised in contemporary jewellery. It was such a great place to work, the connections and opportunities where inspiring.

6 months later I fell pregnant with my beautiful son, and had to stop working, but the experiences I had inspired me to start my own little piece of the industry, and Bark Opal was born.

My current collection uses enchanting natural gemstones along with sterling silver and gold to create minimalistic jewellery.
